Mo van der Does, Amsterdam based Dutch jazz saxophonist
Alto saxophonist Mo van der Does (1997) is an upcoming talent within the Dutch jazz scene. He is praised for his improvisation, sound and lyricism. He studied with renowned musicians like Simon Rigter, Jasper Blom, Ferdinand Povel and Ben van Gelder. With groups like the Mo van der Does Quartet, IKODO, Peter Beets & Henk Meutgeert New Jazz Orchestra, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and All Ellington, Mo played concerts in 7 different countries and on stages like the BIMhuis, North Sea Jazz Festival, Grachtenfestival, the Royal Concertgebouw, Transition Festival, Lantarenvenster, Tivoli Vredenburg and many more. In 2014 Mo won the first prize and the Laureate jury prize of the prestigious Prinses Christina Jazz Concours, in 2017 the public prize of the Leidse Jazz Award, in 2018 the Expression of Art award and in 2019 the Conservatorium Talent Award. He performed as a guest soloist with orchestras like the Millennium Jazz Orchestra and the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw featuring Dr. Lonnie Smith, which took place at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2016. He shared the stage with some of the Netherlands finest musicians like Benjamin Herman, Anton Goudsmit, Wilbert de Joode and Reinier Baas. November 2018 the Mo van der Does Quartet recorded their debut album with exclusively own compositions, which was released on Fattoria Musica records.
